Esta obra es un texto histórico, descriptivo y explicativo de los procesos extractivos inherentes al primer período de la explotación cauchera en el Putumayo y ha sido construida con base en un vasto universo de fuentes documentales primarias, elaboradas por indígenas y mestizos, por cacucheros, por misioneros, por militares, por agentes gubernamentales locales y regionales y, en fin por un conjunto muy diverso de sujetos que, fundamentalmente, estuvieron atrapados en la "vorágine" de las caucherías. La obra está dirigida a las poblaciones indígenas del Putumayo y, en general, de la Amazonia, cuyos "taitas", "abuelos" y "mayores", como mano de obra endeudada y esclavizada, sufrieron los vejámenes cometidos durante el primer auge de la explotación cauchera. Asimismo, la obra está dirigida a todas aquellas personas e instituciones comprometidas con el presente y el futuro del Putumayo y, en general, de la Amazonia. |
