La sociología está experimentando lo que solo puede describirse como hiperdiferenciación de las teorías: ahora hay muchos enfoques que compiten por la atención en el ámbito intelectual. Desde esta perspectiva, deberíamos ver una eliminación de las teorías en un pequeño número, pero esto no es probable que ocurra porque cada una de las muchas perspectivas teóricas tiene una base de recursos de adherentes.
